POPULARIZING THE QUR'AN ON TIKTOK: DIGITAL DA’WAH AND THE SIMPLIFICATION OF QUR’ANIC INTERPRETATION

This study investigates the role of TikTok in popularizing Qur'anic interpretation through digital da'wah. Using a qualitative design and a digital content analysis approach, this research analyzes TikTok videos that feature Qur'anic verses, brief explanations, and interpretive messages. Data were collected through observation and documentation of TikTok accounts that regularly produce Qur'an-based da'wah content, as well as audience interactions in the form of comments, shares, and likes. The findings demonstrate that TikTok is not merely a platform for disseminating religious messages but also actively shapes how Qur'anic interpretations are simplified, visualized, and consumed by digital audiences, particularly younger users. The study reveals that TikTok fosters a process of simplification in which interpretations are condensed into brief, relatable, and emotionally engaging messages. While this transformation enhances accessibility, it also risks oversimplification and the loss of deeper interpretive nuance. Furthermore, the study identifies a shift in religious authority within this digital space, where legitimacy is determined not only by academic credentials but also by communicative skill, visual appeal, and the ability to resonate with audiences. This research underscores TikTok's role as more than a medium for da'wah; it is a dynamic space that redefines how Qur'anic interpretation is produced, shared, and received in the digital age.
