Focus and Scope

International Journal of Integrated Legal Systems (IJILS) is a peer-reviewed academic journal dedicated to advancing scholarly research on the interaction, convergence, and harmonization of diverse legal traditions and systems. The journal focuses on the theoretical, doctrinal, and empirical analysis of how different legal systems—such as civil law, common law, Islamic law, customary law, and hybrid systems—interact, influence, and adapt to global and local challenges.

The scope of the journal includes, but is not limited to:

  • Comparative studies of legal systems and transsystemic legal analysis

  • Legal pluralism and hybrid legal frameworks

  • Interaction between international law and domestic legal systems

  • Integration of religious or customary law with statutory legal frameworks

  • Legal harmonization in regional or transnational contexts (e.g., EU law, ASEAN legal instruments, African Union legal integration)

  • Conflict of laws and cross-border legal cooperation

  • Law and development in plural legal contexts

  • Human rights and legal integration across jurisdictions

  • Judicial dialogue and constitutional convergence

  • Methodologies for integrating legal traditions in policy and practice

IJILS encourages interdisciplinary approaches involving law, political science, sociology, anthropology, and international relations. The journal welcomes submissions from scholars, practitioners, and policymakers engaged in the study and practice of integrated legal frameworks at the national, regional, or international level.
